    Practical Ideas and Strategies

Over the past decade the research has exploded in the diagnosis and treatment of students who have difficulties in executive functioning. Executive dysfunction is thought to be the underlying neurological difficulty for many of our students with learning challenges and learning barriers. Veteran teacher, Dr. Powell, addresses dozens of interventions and practical strategies you can use to help students lacking executive function skills, whether working in-person or online.

Facilitator Bio:

Christine Powell is a high school special educator currently teaching in the Conejo Valley at Newbury Park High School. With over 19 years of direct teaching and learner support experience, she works with students in K-college, focusing on executive functioning disorders and learning challenges. Dr. Powell earned a doctorate degree at California Lutheran University, and in 2019 was a Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching Scholar to Singapore. Dr. Powell’s research is published in the Journal of American Assoc. of Special Education Professionals and the National Association of Special Education Teachers. She currently is an Accessibility Coach with UCLA Smarter Balanced Consortium; heads the Corwin Read2Earn Teacher Professional Development Program at CLU; and has a private practice helping individuals learn and utilize executive functioning skills, Learning by Connecting.
